Prisoner Vote Question?

I have seen lots on the internet about prisoners blanket ban on voting in the UK, but what if the hypothetical question of if a prisoner is out on day release and it happens to be polling day, are they allowed to go and vote? This was mentioned in the Guardian in February 2011
